NK11 Football Development Officer – Derek Miller

I, like many other coaches that I have worked with over the years, got into coaching because of my love for the game.

Growing up as youth team player at Partick Thistle and as a first team squad player at St Mirren I was always determined to pursue a career in sport. I was awarded my HND in Sports Coaching before I got my first opportunity working in Football by setting up a private coaching academy in Argyll and Bute Council in 2010 with their regional development squads.

Since then I have worked towards many Scottish FA coaching qualifications earning with UEFA B Licence in August 2014 as well as other qualifications including Scottish FA Futsal, the Coerver Coaching Youth Diploma and the CYQ gym instructor course.

Over the years I have acquired a wide range of skills and experience viewing myself as a modern technical coach with a keen interest in performance analysis, training methods and player identification. My early coaching career included work Argyll and Bute Council, five years’ experience as a Scottish FA community coach and a year as a technical coach at Coerver Coaching Scotland.

My experiences have also included working with a wide variety elite level players as an academy coach for Hamilton F.Cs U11s, U12s and U13s, Partick Thistle F.Cs U12s and U14s and a year as the Head Coach of Helle FC in Norway. Most recently I have been working with the Celtic Foundation’s international soccer academy which has included domestic and international team coaching, talent identification and skills centre coaching.

Having gained invaluable experience working with a wide variety of players at all levels, coached in both youth academies and community settings, coordinated community and educational programmes and many years coaching at 11 a side I feel I am perfectly suited to overseeing the development of the NK11s section here at North Kelvin Utd.
